Cisco - UC500 series

IP telephony (Internet Protocol telephony) is a general term for the technologies that use the Internet Protocol's packet-switched connections to exchange voice, fax and other forms of information that have traditionally been carried over the dedicated circuit-switched connections of the public switched telephone network (PSTN)

IP telephony is currently experiencing tremendous growth, accelerated by access to value-added features and applications that only IP telephony can provide to the end user. Additionally, the cost benefits of converging data, voice, and video on a single network are adding to the rapid acceptance of this technology.
